Our Church History

The Duncanville Church of Christ hosted its first official assembly on the fourth Sunday of February 1949 in a downtown feed store.  Ira Bristow preached. Twenty-three new members joined the church the first year as Duncanville’s suburban population grew rapidly.

Continued growth led to the purchase of land at the corner of Center and Walnut, where an auditorium and ten classrooms were constructed. The first  assembly there was in May 1954.

In 1963 the Duncanville church appointed its first shepherds:  Roy Britt, I.T. Cawthon, Woodrow Gleeson, and Earl Foster.

In 1976 twenty-eight acres were purchased at 402 W. Danieldale Road. Construction of a new facility was completed in 1987 with the first assembly being held in April of that year.

On May 30, 2017 the church name was officially changed to GracePlace Church of Christ.

In November 2017 the property and facility at 402 W. Danieldale Rd was sold to Village Tech Charter School. The last assembly at the property was December 31, 2017.

Beginning in January 2018 the church assembled at  Duncanville First Baptist Church in their Family Life Center.

In December 2017 a building and land was purchased at 520 Big Stone Gap Rd.  The  existing building was remodeled and the first assembly was April 15, 2018.  A pavilion and amphitheater were constructed on the grounds in early 2018.  Another small building on the property was remodeled and now serves as our Food Pantry.

Construction is currently underway on an additional building that will house a professional kitchen, Community Center, classrooms, and  church offices.  Completion of this project is expected in the summer of 2019.

While we have grown in size and changed in appearance, our mission remains the same: To KNOW God, GROW in Faith, and GO Serve Others & Share Jesus Christ.
